A uniquely peaceful Somerset glamping site set around two ponds in its own beautiful wildlife garden – a perfect place for a retreat.
Deep in rural Somerset on the edge of a quiet village close to the Mendip Hills, there’s a little corner of the countryside that’s known locally as ‘The Brew’. Created 200 years ago by a local brewery, it has at its heart an old pleasure garden, with an extraordinary collection of ponds, waterfalls and a grotto that is gradually being brought back to life by its new owners, who are aiming to develop it into a modern sanctuary for wildlife – buzzards and kingfishers, butterflies and bats, even a family of a deer. At the same time they are making part of it into a uniquely peaceful, partially off-grid glamping site for gentle retreats that will stimulate your body and creativity – ‘Retreats at The Brew’.
The Retreats can include paddleboard pilates, yoga, wild swimming, gentle walking as well as music making, story telling, theatre making – everything to get your body and creativity moving. They also include breakfast and an evening meal, prepared onsite and featuring local and foraged elements wherever possible (Vegetarian and Vegan).
The off-grid part of the site is made up of six luxury Lotus bell-tents, each with a proper king-sized bed or twin beds, with duvets, blankets, towels, a hot water bottle and chests of drawers for your clothes; outside each tent there is a table and two chairs, a kettle and mugs for coffee and tea with filtered spring water from The Brew land. Compost loos and cabin showers are close at hand, though a morning dip in the spring-fed ponds is a refreshing way to start the day!
There is also a large and very comfortable yurt in the old walled garden a couple of minutes’ walk from the tents, which makes a great communal space for some of the creative activities. There’s on -grid facilities, with an additional shower room and two proper flushing loos. The yurt also has sofas and chairs, indoor and outdoor dining tables for Breakfast and Dinner.
The Brew is perfect for couples, families with older children or groups of friends who want to enjoy a chilled break amid nature in a retreat like setting with a creative edge.
